my 2cents worth, in the same aspect as oldtree...I have grown in a much similar space with height restrictions under cfls and after 4 harvest in both soil and hydro, Ive learned if at all possible, its much more beneficial to have a whole room, if you can do it...by all means go that route...if not here is what ive learned about a cabinet grow, Heat, for sure dont let the plant get above 10 inches, go for girth rather than height, go bansai route, but that calls for alot of extra vegtime to get new chutes going, and if your using just the one cabinet for both vegging and budding...your looking at equal time for both, so a harvest...from clone to finish, for 1 plant,4-5months...a good 2 weeks to get the roots take...and another 1month for getting to the height and alot of snipping and letting the chutes spread out.I let mine get to about 6inches then pinched the top bud chutes...let them bush out and kept pinching off the tops...eventually it turned into short squaty bush, but it took a good 6-7 weeks to get to that point and there is probably really only enough room for 1 plant at a time. it will be a good learning experience and when that plant is harvested...your not going to want to depart from any of it easily!! shoot me a message, maybe i can help out with some strains!!

IMO if people can see your growbox/growroom and ponder what is in it than it is not stealth!! I dug a hole for my stealth grow room because of it. With no veg box you will be lucky to yield 2 oz every 4-5 months. I would not risk the penelty of getting busted growing for that especally with such a non stealth grow! Sorry to be an ass but thats how I see it!

Sorry to be an ass but thats how I see it! The whole point of the rubbermaid tote grow box is to make it look like a stack of innocent-looking tubs. I have a small living space with limited storage with a few tubs already sitting around in here actually storing things, thus this would blend in perfectly so long as I can hide any wires and keep the light sealed in (hence why the darkroom vent is such a great idea here). It's a little thing called "hidden in plain site". There is not cause to ponder anything! Bear in mind that I just seek to grow for myself- thereby NOT attacting any attention by selling- in a couple 35 gallon totes with the top of one and the bottom of another cut out as was presented on the first page of this thread. I can put another smaller tote on top to hide any screws, keep the vents pointed towards the wall so they are not visible, and run any power cables behind furniture so it is not obvious. The top tote can also be a clone chamber, setting up a perpetual grow, though I haven't worked out where to screw in the light if I go that route. The proper cabinet will come once I move into a more permanent, long-term residence. I plan on planting a few plants in soil now and once I have this whole apparatus worked out, start some sort of Sea of Green operation in there. I have CFL's now and was planning on using them due to their low power usage and heat generation, though I may upgrade them to a couple 100-250 watt HPS flood lights if I can manage the heat. If nothing else, I can stash this in a closet (a very natural place for such totes) and hide any cables with rugs on the floor, and integrate an ONA odor machine such as what's stickied in this forum to take care of the smell. Anyone who feels like being civil/constructive: is this at all a realistic plan? Should the SCROG come only when I am able to upgrade the lights?

Definitely the dream, but it won't be practical for a least a few more years for me. if not here is what ive learned about a cabinet grow, Heat, for sure dont let the plant get above 10 inches, go for girth rather than height, go bansai route, but that calls for alot of extra vegtime to get new chutes going, and if your using just the one cabinet for both vegging and budding...your looking at equal time for both, so a harvest...from clone to finish, for 1 plant,4-5months...a good 2 weeks to get the roots take...and another 1month for getting to the height and alot of snipping and letting the chutes spread out.I let mine get to about 6inches then pinched the top bud chutes...let them bush out and kept pinching off the tops...eventually it turned into short squaty bush, but it took a good 6-7 weeks to get to that point and there is probably really only enough room for 1 plant at a time. it will be a good learning experience and when that plant is harvested...your not going to want to depart from any of it easily!! I've had one successful closet grow, but those were a crazy few months being afraid of people opening my closet. I think I'll take your advice on the initial crop and depending on how things grow, see if I can get the scrog going. If things don't work, I'll definitely grow a smaller number of girthy plants as you're suggesting. shoot me a message, maybe i can help out with some strains!! Will do It sounds like a good idea and I would be glad to help in any way I can. I use 140 watts in 2 20 gallon tubs and the temp gets around eighty at the lights. I have had additional cfl's in there as well so you should be able to control the temps. It comes down to simple air flow. The great thing about a scrog is the veg length. This will give you the chance to let the plants grow into the scrog until you finalize your plans. Hd and Lowes have security lights that are inexpensive. If you need to modify them I can help with that too. My outburst wasn't directed at you by the way. I ran down to HD and picked up a few 3 bulb bathroom lights like the ones the original post used on his chamber. I may switch in a month when I have more money, we'll see. Oh yeah, don't worry about it, I find your advise to be most constructive (so I lurk here a lot).

oldtree for one I am not a new member. I was active here 7-8 years ago. Gave some seeds away as well that I bought. Thank you for helping CC members with beans. Another I really was not an ass even though I apoligised for it. I just have an unpopular view. When taking any risk the rewards have to outweigh the risk and a tote sitting in a room with people around is not that. If he never had people in the room with the grow box is another story but that is not his plan. A closet grow is a bit more stealth but he said the tote will be sitting in the room. The subject of this post is "real stealth tote" and for his sake I disagree. Trying to keep him out of jail for a possibility of 2 oz every 4-5 months. Sorry again for watching out for YOUR ass even though it's NOT what you want to hear! I had no way to grow stealth in my home and I am not willing to RISK growing due to it so I built an underground grow room that is STEALTH. That was the solution for my problem, not sure about his.
I think also oldtree it this. You believe in totes due to it's what you use/used. I believe in stealth due to I dug a huge hole with a shovel and built my growroom in it. I think stealth is very important and a tote in a room in view of others is not that. Who do you think believes more in what we do? Have you ever dug a hole big enough to build a grow room in? I mixed and poured 2 concrete slabs and laid 200+block and filled them all with concrete. I think it's fair to say I believe very strongly in stealth.
Thanks again oldtree for being a great member of CC

grows, I was asking for assistance in refining my tub chamber, not for the general opinions of what the best way to grow is. There's a big difference here.
You've stated your case, although I think you really could/should have done so in a more constructive way. In any case, we've heard your opinion, and I find your advice to be unusable in my personal situation. Don't take it personally, that's just the way it is.
Bear in mind that this isn't going in my living room, and it may end up in a closet after all... and did you read where I said I had done closet grows in the past, and found them to be of most questionable security?
We get your point, thanks. You might want to be a bit more judicious in handing out your opinions in the future.
