It's all off the wall. The info online, the availability of good equipment (electrophoresis) and specialty bio-products like ampicillin, plasmid vectors, cultures.

Freaking crazy exciting.

No doubt. I've been doing some research on gene promoters and its pretty amazing stuff. I've been specifically interested in light induced promoters. It might be possible to have specific genes expressed based solely on the spectrum of light.

Interestingly enough, some of the promoters come from potatos.

There's also this CRE/LOX technique that could be used as a sort of a gene expression toggle. You could use specific wavelengths of light to program the gene expression and then use the CRE/LOX technique to lock that in place. So, as soon as seeds or cell cultures develope a shoot with leaf tissue, you could hit it with say a range of far-red to infra-red wavelengths to turn on which ever flavors you'd like it to have.. and what kind of high. Then hit it with the wavelength that would kick in the CRE/LOX and permanently lock that in the DNA.

I have followed this thread since its inception and must admit that you are doing some far out research that will definitely benefit the cannabis world. My applause goes out to you for doing this.....Peace and Pot

Thanks, but I'm really just standing on the shoulders of giants, as they say... But that aside, it is friggin cool...

I feel like a kid in a candy store. There are so many possiblities... I don't know where to start. I was thinking that getting another plant to make smokable THC should be first, but now I'm waivering... I found out that the designer drug laws would apply, so it'd be just as illegal. It would be able to have a brief period of perfect camouflage when the cops wouldn't know what it was though...

I'm finding more and more potentially valuable techniques and tools, so who knows what's possible. What would the Cannabis community benefit from most?

I've got a plan for isolating and transfering a few proteins of the CBG, CBD and THC cannaboids, so now I'm researching terpene gene expression and gene promoters. It'll be a month or so before I get to the lab work. I'd love to hear what people want in a GMO plant...

You ever wonder what causes that wonderful citris taste?

It's a terpene called limonene. Some plants carry and express a gene that creates this stuff... and this is what it looks like...

Are you going to be able to pick out and increase specific terpens ?

Looks like it... I've got sequences for about 3/4 of that list now, plus about 15 that aren't on that list...

Well, you can buy the extracted terpenes, so you could try it and see. I'd guess it work, if you did it right... It'd probably be very easy to over do it... or not get it evenly applied...

why would you want to put anything ON your weed. Grow organic and with a variety of genes....you can adjust taste by adjusting nutes
