It's sort of ignorant(not in a bad way) to say that LEDS will never compare with HID. I'm sure folks thought the same thing about the introduction of laser disks over cassettes. Of course laser disk wasn't practical but it was the precursor for CD roms which definitely out perform cassettes. Now photo-systems contain photo-pigments that operate most successfully at certain wavelengths. With LED lights you could theoretically have each wavelength that cooperates most successfully with that photo-pigment. Thusly more photosynthesis will occur and more product will be formed. Now I understand that their light density isn't as powerful as HID, but like Fulvic said there is nowhere to go but up(improvement).

no shit i second nuto on that you cant really have an informative ....well anything to say if you havnt actually used led.. your basing your opinion on what others say?crappy growers.. i have used led shit tons of times i think they work good and even better when mixed with cfl or even hid which i have not done either.2 other members here are running hid and a blackstar 240 in combo i hope they pop in and add their 2c.one of the guys i can drive over to his house to see myself how led/hid do together.

I would say LED grow lights are quite safe. They consume low voltage, lower burn, fire risk, light weight, less fragile and less environmental hazards. Users of LED Grow Lights experience great results both in hobby gardens as well as in commercial settings.

I have never used led's seriously but have played a little. My opinion of led and cfl's for that matter is that they are not yet ready for larger scale grow rooms or commercial grows. They may have a great spectrum for growing and can make plants grow as well as hid's but only on a smaller scale.

Closet and micro grows are perfect uses for these lights.

Right now, the technology is not at the point where led's and cfl's can stand alone in a larger room but are great additions for side lighting and such.

Will they ever compare to hid's? Now thats the question.

Intensity is the key to advancement of these lighting systems.

IMO

now i seen a set up on the web and if i can find the pic ill post it but was considering making it myself to see but the guy used a piece of plywood with 20 holes drilled with ur average shop light socket in each one with a 3w led bulb in each socket but it seemed to look ok and he said it was less then hundred dollars to build but his plants were so little u couldnt see any differance but wats ur guys thoughts on that wat i looked up it was about 1800 lumens tottal and each light was 3 watt so thats 60 watts

Marijuana plants require a very specific type of light to grow. Experiments show LED Grow Lights is appropriate for marijuana growing. For patients who need medical marijuana, the progress of LED grow lights has been closely watched.

LED grow lights have exploded in the last few years with more advanced versions seeming to appear monthly. But amongst marijuana growers there is heated debate on the subject, with traditionalists yet to be converted to the new technology.

I have a 120w extreme flower from advanced led and a 180w extreme veg from them also. I currently use the 120w by itself for flowering but will adding the 180w veg led make a difference?
