The cubes were squished to get the water out and for smaller volume of garbage. It would have been nice not to have to keep buying cases of cubes, but I guess there's no more convenient way of doing it really. You pretty much have to have something to hold the stems up and root the cuttings in.

I started using the neoprene collars with my cuts
and they grow to maturity in the 2 inch size.
I got my 2 inch neo at the local hydro store,
but you can find several sizes online.
Not must waste if any.
