Marijuana Advocate Ken Gorman Dies In Shooting

(CBS4) DENVER A Denver man known as a pioneer in the fight for Colorado's medical marijuana law was shot and killed Saturday night after his house was broken into.

Ken Gorman, an outspoken advocate for legalizing marijuana, grew pot in his home on the 1,000 block of South Decatur Street.

Denver police said they are investigating the shooting, but were releasing few details Sunday afternoon. Family members told CBS4 Gorman was the victim in the crime.

Last weekend, CBS4's Rick Sallinger did an investigation on Colorado's medical marijuana law that centered on Gorman. Gorman had recently been giving seminars on how to use the law to obtain the drug even if you aren't sick.

Gorman was on Colorado's medical marijuana registry. He said he had been suffering chronic pain from bersitis.

A CBS4 employee recently approached Gorman with a hidden camera and told him he only wanted marijuana to get high. Gorman then filled a form designating CBS4's employee as one of his caregivers.

"When we passed the law we passed a great, great law," Gorman said to the CBS4 employee. "There are so many holes in it that for us, the patient, police can't do anything."

Gorman was also the host of an annual large marijuana smoke-out at the state capitol. He once ran for the state's highest office, and earned the nickname, "the governor."

Colorado is one of 11 states that has legalized the use of marijuana for medical reasons.

I have no idea what happened here but i do Know that prohibition is the cause of this!

As the tally of the dead rise the cost of of prohibition climbs.How many lives must be taken?Whats the cost to stop this civil war of brother against brother,mother against son .When will the dead tally enough to show the scales of justice are un equally yoked.

I don't find my actions stressful at all. I'm asked to speak by the media frequently and my language conveys an anger about the real reasons for the war against pot but I don't think I've ever NOT told some of the funnier aspects of what I do.

I've been called crazy by the leaders of national movements (MPP) because I'm not polite or civil when it comes to attacking the enemies of this planet and marijuana. They think that appealing to common sense will generate empathy for their cause when the government is going to use terrorist propaganda from the 1930's. I operate more by the saying "Never appeal to a mans better nature, he may not have one. Inciting his self interest will always give you more leverage". I fully intend to make every person that's in favor of this war look as foolish and stupid as they have tried to portray us.

Maybe the foreign revolutions, prison, and not backing away from the battles I have chosen make me look older than I am but the knowledge that I have gained to reinforce my beliefs that I'm doing the right thing fills me with more than enough energy to continue. I've already been promised a bullet in the head if I were to gain political power so I don't really have enough time to get sick or die from something like cancer.

I enjoy life but more than that, I find humor in just about everything connected to the stupidity I fight. That's why I find it so easy to use ridicule and sarcasm in responding to the idiots and bootlickers of corporate politics. If you can't have some fun with what you have chosen in life it's not worth it.

PLEASE JOIN ME in expressing our deepest sympathies to the Ken Gorman family. He will SURELY be missed.

It is ironic that he personally told me following a foiled robbery attempt a few months ago, that there would NOT be another one (as he flashed a handgun). I was amazed at the time when Gorman told me that he had personally experienced more than ten robbery attempts over the years.

That's awful .I knew Ken though is work and he and I communicated via email fo the last 4 years. My deepest sympathy to his family.

there will be a sunset vigil on the steps of the capitol in the next week. more details will follow as they come about.

I extend my sympathy to the family of Ken, the city of Denver, and the activism movement as a whole. This is a tragic and unfair loss. THIS is how prohibition kills!

We had Ken in issue #59, and I will post that article and photos online soon. Please know that Marc and I are very sorry to hear this sad news.
