Chantix is one of those FDA approved drugs which can be used to get over smoking habit. It works on body by giving you the same feel good effect like smoking and hence reduces the craving for nicotine. This medicine should only be used in accordance with the instructions of a physician as there are various side effects which may vary from person to person and it includes change of taste, sleeplessness and many more. I have smoked for more than 10 yrs, but now I am spending a smoke free life from last 2 months. Thanks to chantix. Along with having this medicine, you should also have will power and feeling that you want to get over this habit.

I've heard of that Chantix, haven't done research on it yet but I've heard a couple people mention it. (Stop being so spam jumpy.)

I quit cold turkey well over a year ago and think it's the best possible way. It was hell, pure hell but it was worth it. Every time I tried quitting with patches or gum or whatever I went right back to it. But just STOPPING made it all worth it because I knew the outcome would be that I never went back so I never had to go through that hell anymore.

There were a couple times within the first week that after having sex I cried.. literally cried because I was fiening for a cigarette, but it passed and the cravings passed and I finally stopped associating everything I did with cigarettes.

congrats everyone on stoping smoking!! I stopped about 2 months ago after smoking a pack a day for about 10 years.
I just quit out of the blue one night I took a xanax and just kept taking one maybe two xanax pills a day for the next week and didn't go through withdraws or anything but maybe I was lucky.
If anyone decides to try this I must say I hear xanax is highly addictive so use in strict moderation and do some research first. I was taking the lowest dose possible and it was sufficent for me. I just wanted to share my experience G.L. everyone!

Replacing one substance with another is not really the best thing to do.

Im sure you are right I was just stating my experience and how it helped me quit and still function for the first couple days.I also would use breathing exercises whenever I got a craving and I liked lemon heads and sunflower seeds for the oral fixation.I hope I can quit for as long as you guys have I still get slight cravings every now and then especially since the majority of my friends smoke.

Right.

I still get cravings now and again, and I've even tried smoking a time or two since I quit but there was just no gratification like there used to be. It just made me sick, it tasted like shit and made me feel the same. The craving is just a stress relieving crave, once you find something to replace the craving you'll be well on your way.

I've been called a "quit snob". I can't stand cigarettes or the smell, I hate being around people who smoke because it makes me gag. It has nothing to do with the people, it's the shit they're smoking. It's disgusting and I see that now.

Naw mom4. Your just seeing the habit for what it is since overcoming your addiction. Trust me, I feel the same. Cigs and I do not agree at all anymore and it will be a cold day in hell that I take another puff of that shit.

I have a 6 year old daughter who is very inquisative and intelligent. I quit smoking cigarettes 3 months ago due to health concerns and fear that my daughter will pick up the addiction at a later age(she told me shortly before quitting that she wanted to smoke, just like me when she will be older).

I hate the fact that I now have to hide my marijuana smoking from her as I feel that I am deceiving her in some way

The last thing you would want to feel responsible for helping to create is a fourteen year old daughter hooked on tobacco, been drinking fortwo years, lost her virginity a year ago and just found out she`s pregnant. All grown up with no place to go.

Parents should keep secrets from their children.I would start warning her about the harms of drugs and alcohol early. The tykes are being exposed to adult indulgences at younger stages of life than most kids were back in the 50s. And if you wait too long, she just might already have been fooled into believing someone else over you.

A very inquisitive 6 year old needs both parents in complete agreement talking and explaining the facts of life rigt now. What you posted says you love your daughter and want to protect her. Whatcha waitin` for?
