A Drug Dealer's Toll on Americans By Karen P. Tandy
And of course, not only is this BS, it's recycled BS... anonymous

Tandy sez: Marc Emery, who distributed millions of marijuana seeds throughout the country, admits the accuracy of the Drug Enforcement Administration's charges against him, but he denies harming Americans ["High Crimes, or a Tokin' Figure?" Style, March 18]

DEA Release Admits Marc Emery Extradition Politically Motivated
The US Drug Enforcement Administration admitted on the day of Marc Emery's arrest that his investigation and extradition were politically motivated, designed to target the Marijuana Legalization organization that Emery spearheaded and ran for over a decade in Canada.

Emery contends a news release issued July 29, the day of his arrest, reveals the U.S. government's intention to mute his efforts to advance the spread of marijuana. In the release, Karen Tandy, head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, wrote: "Today's DEA arrest of Marc Scott Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture Magazine, and the founder of a marijuana legalization group, is a significant blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in the U.S. and Canada, but also to the marijuana legalization movement. ... Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Emery's illicit profits are known to have been channeled to marijuana legalization groups active in the United States and Canada."

Tandy's office has declined to comment about the statement, but locally, federal prosecutors have distanced themselves from her remarks.

NORML: 68th Anniversary of Marijuana Prohibition
For the anniversary NORML has compiled some 'fun' facts and resources to help you get through another birthday.

"Several generations of high school students have grown up ignoring and disbelieving everything they've heard from government and police about drugs, including information that was factual and valid, because they discovered for themselves that most of what has been taught to them was simply not true."
Ann Shulgin, PhD, Therapist and Author, Lafayette, CA,
at the DPF Conference, November 1996

Quote:

Tandy sez:Like all dealers, Mr. Emery turns a blind eye to marijuana's victims -- people like Victoria Rogers, a mother driving with her children when she was killed by a marijuana-intoxicated motorist.

Nebraska -- Rape. Murder. Drunk driving.
None of these crimes will cost college students their Pell Grants, but walking down the street with a joint could. As of July 1, 2000, a provision in the Higher Education Act mandated that students’ eligibility for federal financial aid be suspended if they are convicted under federal or state laws of offenses involving the possession or sale of controlled substances.

"Congress should definitely consider decriminalizing possession of marijuana... We should concentrate on prosecuting the rapists and burglars who are a menace to society."
U.S. Representative Dan Quayle, March 1977

CC:Cannabis and Driving
While acute cannabis intoxication has been shown to have demonstrable impact on psychomotor performance, these effects are typically mild and short-lived lasting at most one to three hours, and certainly not 24 hours, as claimed by the ONDCP. Moreover, unlike with alcohol, the accident risk caused by cannabis - particularly among those who are not acutely intoxicated - is often limited because subjects under its influence are generally aware of their impairment and compensate to some extent, such as by slowing down and by focusing their attention when they know a response will be required. This response is the opposite of that exhibited by drivers under the influence of alcohol, who tend to drive in a more risky manner proportional to their intoxication.

Marijuana is one of the world's most commonly used illegal drugs.
There are approximately 300 million users worldwide and 28 million users in the United States (Diaz, 1997)

300 million users worldwide vs "A" marijuana-intoxicated motorist?

Dionne Warwick's Charges Dropped in Plea Bargain
Drug charges against Dionne Warwick were dropped Wednesday after a Miami-Dade County judge agreed to a plea bargain deal, which included a drug treatment program.

Indictments of Federal Drug Policy
Rand and American Enterprise Institute Studies -
Although marijuana is a much smaller contributor to crime than heroin or crack, 58 percent of treatment admissions where the primary drug of abuse was marijuana were criminal justice system referrals. By comparison, only 13 percent of heroin treatment admissions and 26 percent of crack admissions were criminal justice system referrals. The likely explanation for the higher marijuana figure is the large number of young individuals who enter treatment programs as part of a plea bargain or pretrial negotiations.

No More Bargaining Away Our Rights
Norm Pattis at Crime & Federalism has a good post today detailing the perils of plea bargaining, which allows defendants to waive their right to a jury trial in exchange for prosecutors seeking a lesser sentence. But, prosecutors routinely abuse the system by using trumped-up charges and threats of decades in prison to coerce defendants into waiving their rights.

Remember Peter McWilliams the next time Drug Czar Walters claims the "drug war" is not really a "war." McWilliams had his computers siezed, his livelihood and works in progress destroyed, his finances frozen and bankrupted, his critical lifesaving anti-nausea medication- marijuana- denied, even his mother threatened with the loss of her bailbonded-home if Peter tested positive with one iota of THC in his system. The federal judge even denied McWilliams the right to use Marinol, "legal" synthetic THC available in pill form.

The U.S. federal government has failed to make public its own 1994 study that undercuts its position that marijuana is carcinogenic - a $2 million study by the National Toxicology Program. The program's deputy director, John Bucher, says the study "found absolutely no evidence of cancer." In fact, animals that received THC had fewer cancers. Bucher denies his agency had been pressured to shelve the report, saying the delay in making it public was due to a personnel shortage.

Researchers at the University of California (UCLA) School of Medicine have announced the results of an 8 - year study into the effects of long-term cannabis smoking on the lungs. In Volume 155 of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. D.P. Tashkin reported: "Findings from the present long-term, follow-up study of heavy, habitual marijuana smokers argue against the concept that continuing heavy use of marijuana is a significant risk factor for the development of [chronic lung disease. ..Neither the continuing nor the intermittent marijuana smokers exhibited any significantly different rates of decline in [lung function as compared with those individuals who never smoked
marijuana. Researchers added: "No differences were noted between even quite heavy marijuana smoking and non-smoking of marijuana."

More DEAth side tracking and avoiding reality. Tobacco “products” contain hundreds of deadly chemicals that when ignited and sucked into lungs cause harmful damage. Chemicals not added to Ganja. Also as a capillary dilator it can help open bronchial passages restricted by tobacco. That is unless you choose not to smoke. A particularly notorious example of this was the time Anslinger began to issue frequent press releases in 1935 that documented the horrible crimes committed by marijuana-intoxicated youth and/or addicts. With headlines announcing "The New Narcotic Menace" and the "Crusade Against Marijuana," articles that contained remarkably similar accounts appeared in major newspapers and national magazines. This was hardly surprising, in that mainstream media relied almost solely on the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN) for their facts, figures, and requisite horror stories (Becker 1963). The success of Anslinger’s efforts in this particular instance was found in the smooth passage of the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 by Congress (Dickson 1968; Morgan 1981)

U.S. Marijuana Party
Calls for the Resignation of D.E.A. Administrator Karen Tandy
Is the DEA hiding behind the pot seed laws to target its political foes?

Tandy opens her big mouth again

The story of RadioShack begins in 1919 in Fort Worth, Texas, with a chance meeting of two friends, Norton Hinckley and Dave L. Tandy (1889-1966).

John Hinckley was an Oklahoma-born loner who came from a wealthy family, growing up in the upper-class Dallas, Texas neighborhood of Highland Park.  His father was a self-made man successful in the oil business,

Ms. Tandy was Chief of the Asset Forfeiture Unit in the United States Attorney's Office in the Western District of Washington. She has lectured extensively on forfeiture law and practice, conducted international training, and developed a forfeiture teaching model for the American Bar Association. Prior to joining the Justice Department, she clerked for the Chief Judge of the Northern District of Texas. Ms. Tandy, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, is a graduate of Texas Tech University and a 1977 graduate of the Texas Tech Law School. She is married with two daughters.

RadioShack's World Head-quarters is located along the banks of the Trinity River in downtown Fort Worth, Texas.
