Hey Alison,
W/O Reason and I have been visiting Carol every Sunday and we are keeping her up to date with all these things you mention.
I am happy to send along your birthday wishes.
an update from 'inside':
Carol was transfered to her own room this week so she can get some sleep. She has been working hard in the river all day, at a whopping $5.00 per day, and was having a hard time coping with the noise in the 'dorms'. Life is hard enough with the vertigo, unbearable with no sleep.
Carol was covered in calamine lotion and was a little woozy from some Benedryl for the itching...coming from the rash all over her arms...which is suspected cedar poisoning from the river.
She is enjoying the hard work of stream restoration and finds it quite satifying....except for the part where the guard who sits on a stump and watches them all day is getting paid overtime ($46.00 per hour) while her and the inmates doing the hard labour receive 63 cents per hour or $5.00 per DAY!
Carol has applied for parole which could be granted to her on November 30th, 2006. If you say prayers, please add one for the members of the parole board to grant release to Carol on this day.
She is excitedly waiting for two new books coming by mail. She was approved for
The Senate Report and
The I Chong, Meditations from the Joint so we got Chapters Bookstore on that within minutes of hearing of the approval. (Inmates must get pre-approval for new books and they must be delivered by mail by a reputable bookstore.)
Carol and several of the inmates will be making special hand beaded items for auction at the World Premiere of
Trip: The BC Bud Chronicles on December 2, 2006. Tickets will be available this week at the Seed Bank.
The prison has a recreation program for the inmates and the girls at Alouette have created some great items. A selection of those items is on display at the Vancouver Seed Bank, 872 East Hastings, Vancouver, and they are for sale with the proceeds going to benefit the artists.
Carol is very thankful for all the support she is getting through the mail and internet and sends her love to everyone.
See you all at the
movie on Dec 2!
