I appreciate your comments, my brother, and I believe that every True American such as you, such as I believe that I am, Our DUTY as Citizens is and HAS ALWAYS been to fight, in some way or another. You dont have to do much more than actively oppose the status quo in your area, talk to your friends and neighbors about who to vote in, or more importantly, VOTE OUT. Thanks again for your service to the people, dont ever think i dont appreciate the armed services of the USA, I just hate to see them used against the aims of our people, not our leaders, and the future of the world. Voting the republicans out of office this fall will send a message not to be missed. Voting both parties out, would blow their minds. Sad we arent allowed to have a viable third party. Mikey Evans Chairman, Oakland COunty NORML
The name of the game is politics and a third party is certainly not prohibited. However, you will quickly learn that politics is all "local" and change has to bubble up from the bottom. There appear to be "tipping points" that several local communities have reached regarding Pot enforcement and we can work to see that others follow suit. Even failed State initiatives give much needed publicity to the issue and help in the long run.
Remember that politics becomes an engineering project at some level far above that of the average voter.
But voting is the right that many have died for, and even when the choices are slim to none, I try to honor that sacrafice.

Truth is outside of Military Personell and Boyscouts most people only observe or even know about a very few of the many protocols regarding the flag.
...Well put and makes you wonder what are they teaching in schools now-adays.
I can tell you first hand... NOTHING about the flag except how to Pledge Allegiance to it! Straight up; I never taught High School, but in the K-8 curriculum there is nothing about THE FLAG in our required standards, thus, no teach-o. AS a teacher in US public schools, it isn't even required to Pledge to the flag on a daily basis; just a rule that you must conduct ONE "patriotic" exercise daily. It could be a song, worksheet, or other activity however most teachers just do the Pledge to save time and energy for the items the Feds test. Kids don't pass test... teacher loses job. That is called "accountability" in the "No Child Left Behind" era. Who cares if the kid has an intelligent bone in his body. Can he/she MEMORIZE facts and figures??? GREAT; that kid will pass. Screw fostering creativity or even CRITICAL THINKING skills for gods's sakes... what country needs thinkers anyway, eh?
Point being, we don't teach crap about the flag, or anything unrelated to the mandatory exams. If you don't have a "state standard" identifier number or code to correspond with any given activity in your lesson plans, your principal will make you remove that activity and re-plan. Sure you could theoretically go against the grain and do whatever you want behind your own classroom door, but that is not the way you are supposed to meet the goal of compulsory education under NCLB. In fact, "teacher's editions" are nothing more that literal scripts now-days. Has anyone gone into an elementary or middle school classroom in the past few years??? If you have a kid, talk to the teacher and ask to see their "T.E." Don't be surprised when you see "Teacher asks: "Okay students, who can tell me..." "Students reply: "Blah, blah blah." "Teacher says: ..." Seriously, a SCRIPT. Completely scripted lessons from what to say, what to write on the board, where to stand. No LIE!
Stray from the script during an observation, and see how fast the district fires you!
SAD, Sad, sad.

Christ, WeedWitch I've certainly done my share of bitching about teachers, but I didn't realize just how constrained the curriculum is. My condolences.
There was at one time a class called "Civics", which we were required to take at my Junior High School (now called Middle School, I believe). In that class you would learn about the American Flag and some of the ceremonies surrounding it. I don't know how that's taught now, some 45 years later, but it doesn't surprise me that it might have been squeezed out.
