I had questions on how to take care of my glass and I'm happy to find the answers here.

I have some little blades that I find on the street. They come from the street sweepers in this town. I find that these long thin flat blades make perfect little scrapers for preliminary pipe cleaning and resin harvesting.

My wife and I usually wait a while before we clean our bong. I usually take a glass, and attach a coffee filter to it so I can pour out the bong water. I rince all the loose debris and filter it as well. As bud is expensive here, ($40 USD per eighth from one friend, $50 USD an eighth from another,) we often end up going to our resin out of desperation.

Anyhow I usually finish the process on our bong by using hot water, Dawn dish soap and a foam bottle brush. For my smaller parts, I use one of my little blades with a thin strip of green scrubber (the type used on Teflon pans, ect.) carefully wrapped around it.

Scrubbing a bong out this way takes a lot of time and a lot of hot water. The ISO and salt ways sound waaay faster.

I do have a light encrustation of minerials below the water line. It was at it's worst at the very bottom, but I think that since I started with the bottle brush, it started to break it up. It flaked off at the last cleaning with some help. Now if I use the salt, will it be coarse enough to scrub that junk off?

Seriously.

I'm too cautious to try it.

I boil my pipes and use a wooden pick. Pick and boil a couple of times and then run hot water out of your faucet through it and pick at the same time. Took me about 30 min, but now I have a new piece. And for my bong I use rubbing alcohol with salt and rice, and shake it until it's clean. That takes 15 min and my lungs appreciate it and so does my wife, she gets grossed when the bong is dirty.

I recorded a video of myself washing a pipe . It wasn't FULL of junk, otherwise it would have taken longer.

I put a colander in the sink so the pipe wouldn't break if I dropped it. It's happened before, so I started using the colander as a precaution.

The hot water flowing thru the pipe does most of the work loosening up the resin.

Enjoy

just cuz this thread got randomly revived i thought id add that pipe cleaners, the ones we used to play with or at least i did when i was little, their name is literal, but the ones they sell at some headshops are amazing bc they have like metal prickers sticking out and they do wonders for cleaning out the small holes in any bowls if you have a clog problem and dont wanna go thru the process of iso and such
