I've been an active member and volenteer for NDP candidates for the last 5 years and 4 Elections. I was Executive Youth Officer for the NDP on Hamilton Mountain for over two years and Member of McMaster University NDP for 3 years. I ran against David Christopherson in Hamilton Centre who beat a Liberal Cabanet Minister in 2004, and signed up hundreds if not thousands of new NDP members.

I organized two Marc Emery College University Tours for the NDP with co-operation from the Hamilton Mountain NDP Executive, MacNDP, McMaster University and Mohawk College. I Helped fill two tables at the Jack Layton Victory Galla. I have even spent over $2,000 in printing costs over the last 4 years to promote the Repeal Of Prohiobition within the NDP using their official 2001 Campign Handbook as templates.

Melissa and I gave city/provincial/federal NDP members and ridings over $3,500 in the last two years, and worked my ass of to help candidates win like Andrea Horwath, David Christopherson, Chris Charlton and Wayne Marysden. Furthermore, I helped or donated money to 9 other NDP candidates during elections like Alison Myrden and Tony DiPaulo. I have also been to every NDP/Marijuana events/forums, Every All Candidates debate, and Every Nomination Meeting in the last 3 years around Hamilton/Niagara/Toronto.

I helped eNDProhibition and the BCMP pay for the 20,000 Jack Layton posters and handbills which gained National News.

In Hamilton we now have 3 NDP MP's, 3 NDP MPP's and 5 NDP member in City Council with other high profile NDPers listening to us like David Heatly, Hamilton/Niagara saying we should fight and protest Marc Emery's Extradition, Dr. Gordan Gyatt wanting to learn more about Medical Cannabis and Chris Charlton completely behind me, all of them have an excelent track records in the NDP who are saying exactly what we should expect givin the dynamics of parliament.

Bob Bratina, our City Coucilor In Hamiltons Downtown and Longtime NDP member and CHML Radio Host has been in the Up In Smoke Cafe to chat more than any other elected official and even gave me his Hamilton Spectator.com Password and endorsement. He has been rumoured locally as being a candidate for mayor in the next municipal election this november and has spoke highly about our issue to the press before. This Next Election, by the way, will have three candidates from the Up In Smoke Cafe as candidates. To be announced soon.

Chris Goodwin

Hi everyone! My name is Alex and I have been a marijuana activist since the age of 12, I have also voted for the NDP in every election I have attended (ok so im 20 and Ive only voted twice but hey, that 100%!) and support everything the marijuana culture offers. I love that the NDP is on our side with the marijuana issue, its good that one of the big political parties has atleast part of a brain. Although I believe that Mr. Layton and his associates need to bring more awareness to the drug war. I understand that the marijuana issue is just a one of many topics being talked about in politics, but this is also a topic that can and will save peoples lives if legalization goes through.

I think thats enough rambling for now! Anyway, great thread Dana and I hope to see more of the NDP and its supporters in this forum.

Hi, I'm Adrian. I smoke pot. I'm just like all of you - and I want to do something and make a difference. I've discussed and philosophized over this issue for years, and I've come no closer to my original conclusion: the drug war is a giant fraud that muddles minds with more lies and propaganda than any drug could ever do on its own. I'm here to read, post when appropriate, help brainstorm peaceful directions out of this near-century-long mess... and act.

Introductions... hmm..

Well, I'm Jay, and I'm in Abbotsford-Clayburn. I'm 22, and have been with the party for a few years now. I was the YND Rep for the riding, but the official role really wasn't required because of a stiflingly small youth support for the party in Abbotsford. I still pretty much hold the role, although not in the official sense. I tried to initiate a student club at the UCFV campus, but aside from a handful of students (three of five live in other ridings, there really isn't much NDP action in this riding. I think it will be an NDP stronghold for a good time to come, unfortunately. I have more success talking to my friends about politics as myself rather than as a party representative, and I will work that for whatever it's worth.

But yeah. I'm Jay, and I'm here to support the cause. I first learned of the eNDProhibition effort when I met Dana at Provincial Convention, and then we discussed it further at a Steelworkers Spaghetti Dinner.

Hi. My name is donnar and I don't belong here. But only because I'm not Canadian, not because I don't agree with your goal of ending prohibition. I do have one thing to mention though...

Quote:

Canadian New Democrats working to end the drug war. Discuss activism within the NDP, left-wing pot politics, and strategies for creating better drug policy

I consider myself conservative in the sense that I favor a Jeffersonian, Constitution-based government here in the US. As such, I believe the government has no business in anyone's personal affairs and that prohibition is damnable. Any true conservative would agree.

Hi Dana, Alison, nvidia4sure, SomaHaoma, cypress, neutralsam, Hudsonrulez, goodster, shavluk, Fullblown420, Fryth, b0wser & donnar -

My cannabis activism (of sorts) goes back to the late 60's era. My envolvement with the NDP, although minimal, dates back to the 80's until the Bob Rae NDP Government came into power. By the time he was turfed, I vowed that I would never ever support the NDP again (not that I would even think voting Liberal or Conservative). As such, I began voting for the Marijuana Party (as a protest vote and because Brother Michael Baldarsaro was the local candidate). I went back to voting NDP based solely on a meet-the-candidates debate in which David Christopherson spoke so eloquently against cannabis prohibition. When Jack Layton spoke those magic words, "Our party is in favour..." there was no doubt as to where my vote would go.

But as things go, I was once again beginning to lose faith when along comes the eNDP. Thank you, those reservations that were mounting are somewhat being addressed. I am however still concerned that a number of inquiries regarding the NDP's position on cannabis which I forwarded to the NDP have not garnered a response ( other than from Dana and that was in regards to eNDP buttons and letter - which I will most likely need more of shortly - a donation will be forthcoming).

In hindsight, given that the national headquaters must have to deal with a lot of member concerns, perhaps to expect a response even though I wasn't a member was a bit much on my part.

So, I am going to be signing up tomorrow to become an official member. NDP platform aside, I am signing up primarily because of three people ...Dana, Alison and goodster. I know of their commitment firsthand and have the utmost respect for these individuals and their efforts and ...

hopefully some of their political acumen will rub off on this ol' troglodyte.
