One thing I tell people when petitioning is that they are just signing to get the issue/candidate on the ballot. On election day they can choose to vote for what or whomever they want.

I hope everyone out of Saskatoon is able to read this.

Today the Saskatoon board of polic comissioners is holding an open house to discuss its report on strategic renewal. the report was released in september. It focuses on building trust and confidence between the community and the police. This is (apparently) the second public meeting to gather input in response to thelist of strategies.

The open house will be heald at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge between 7:00PM and 9:00PM.

-------------------------

The above is pretty much the exact text of a very small blurb I happened to notice in today's star phoenix on page A6 at the bottom under the header "IN BRIEF" and how brief it was. There is no mention of this event on the Saskatoon City Police Dept' website and there is no mention on their website in regards to this report...at least, if there is I have not yet been able to find it.

An ad may have run earlier but I certainly did not see it. The report seems to be featured on the city of Saskatoon's webpage but you have to know what you're looking for.

I can't make this open house tonight as I will be at work...it's starting to look like I might need to try posting to day shift despite my lack of seniority.

If anyone can make it out, please do and tell us what the open house is like. Also, feel free to ask about the Saskatoon City Police stance on drug prohibition and the upcoming SKMP party registration. Ask why this event was not featured on their website and why only a small easily disregarded blurb was buried on page A6 of today's paper. Is it truly a public forum or just a little show and dance to claim accountability and transparency later.

Cheers

If anyone out of Saskatoon is interested, I will be going door to door tomorrow to collect more signatures on our registration petition. As I expressed earlier at our executive just this evening, we should have been registered by now. If you have some spare time, dress up nicely (and warmly) and come out with me to collect. I’ll buy you lunch afterwards if you like. We could use as much help in this regard as is possible. I have found that our failure to register the party in a timely manner (I was hoping we could get it done soon) is proving to be something of a hindrance.

We are working on getting an accountant on retainer so we can file registration papers. Additionally, our registration committee will be ensuring that constituency names will be filled in on our registration papers this coming Sunday. Details to be announced.

Cheers

After some discussion at our registration committee meeting (filling out constituency names) it was thought that perhaps Sunday would be a better day for our executive meetings. Would anyone here in SK have a problem with that? We were thinking every second Sunday at 6:00PM but since this is not an executive council meeting, we can't really set that time as it would be fairly arbitrary.

I was thinking that if we could just get everyone involved with the SKMP here to agree to a Sunday meeting time if it was alright for them, that we could kind of take unilateral action despite our last executive meeting determining a Saturday meeting date.

Any objections?

Cheers

They don't mention it at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge's site either.

The sunday meetings would be nice but that doesn't solve the problem of someone not being albe to make it on weekends, which is why the poll was put up at our site. So as long as we are willing to work with one of the board missing the meetings.
We should have our own place to go also, someones place would be best.

I think we should make every accomodation to get as many people to the meetings as we can. I prefer weekends because of travel, but I can certainly understand many of the points raised in favour of weekdays.

As one of a few non-Toontown residents, I am in favour of anything that allows for broader inclusiveness and oppertunities for out-of-towners to attend meetings and get involved. Holding meeting on week nights would effectively reduce my attendance to zero ... not that I have had such a good record anyway.

Well, in solving the problem of some one only being able to make it on a weekday, we effectively ensure that half of our executive is unable to attend. The poll at our site indicates that a clear majority of those registered prefer weekends.

I'm not seeing any objections here though so I think we can sety the meeting date for Sunday at 6:00PM. If there is a major disadvantage to our having the meeting on Sunday and that becomes apparent, then I guess we'll continue with Saturdays but I don't foresee any problems over what we're doing now.

As for location, I like the university rather then a residential setting. That's just a personal preference for me though.

Cheers

I also think that meetings at a persons house are a little too personal.

I will honestly say that I wouldn't want a bunch of people in my house, and neither would the others who live here. And I would probably feel less comfortable going to a meeting at somebodys home. I'd much rather keep meeting at the university, or some other semi-public place.
