The Million Marijuana March was started in 1999 by Cures-not-Wars founder, Dana Beal. The idea for an international march grew out of the annual pro-pot demonstration that took place only in New York City.
In its first five years, the Million Marijuana March grew in size and scope. In 2003 there were rallies and marches in over 200 cities around the world.
2004 marks the sixth anniversary of this worldwide event. To reflect the international scope of this global march for marijuana freedom, we are promoting a new name, the Global Marijuana March.
