"The history of the 'war on drugs,' and more specifically the
well-documented history of marijuana legislation, makes it
clear that the goals of the repeatedly declared 'wars' have
little to do with availability and use of harmful substances,
and a lot to do with what is called 'population control' in
the literature of counterinsurgency. The targets are both at
home and abroad-overwhelmingly the poor and defenseless... The
'war on drugs' has the dual function of eliminating the
disposable people (being civilized, we lock them up rather
than murdering them) and frightening the rest, and has been
cynically used for these purposes. The case of Renee Boje
illustrates this cynical abuse of power..."

-Noam Chomsky

You are talking about your motorized cart. But I was thinking (after reading the Noam Chomsky quote) of another "doobie express"

As in the 1978 movie "Midnight Express"

except that instead of being a phrase meaning escape from a Turkish prison...

The "doobie express" is the means of the U.S. government to arrest and incarcerate and harass millions of people.

BBC - Cult - I Love 1978 - Films.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/ilove/years/1978/films3.shtml
Quote:

Midnight Express

Based on a true story, Midnight Express is a harrowing tale of a naïve American tourist imprisoned in a Turkish prison after being caught smuggling a large amount of hashish out of the country.

The conditions are intolerable with violence, filth, rape and inedible food but Billy Hayes (Brad Davis) does manage to gain a few confidantes behind bars. When he can't take any more, he decides to take the 'midnight express' - prison slang for escape. Also stars John Hurt as an intelligent, drug-addicted Englishman.

The theme song for the movie is also the theme song for "Coast to Coast AM"

It is interesting that as the doobie express crumbles in Europe, so does the drug war in general there.

Fear of the demon weed undergirds the whole drug war.

Under a measure recently approved by the House of Representatives, the U.S. would cancel assistance funds for nations with whom it has extradition treaties if and when those nations refuse to "extradite any individual accused of committing a serious criminal offense." However, this potential cut-off of cash would not affect funds slated for U.S.-supported International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement programs, regardless of whether a nation declines to cooperate under such circumstances.

The House on June 29 passed the measure as an amendment to the FY 2006 Foreign Operations funding bill, which it also approved. The bill now moves on to the Senate for consideration.

To the Honorable Irwin Cotler,

Dear Mr. Cotler,

If Renee Boje is returned to the USA she will no doubt spend at least five years in a federal prison. That would be the same as Todd McCormick, spent, for the crime of compassion, growing strains of medical cannabis that would be especially helpful for various illness'.

I'm a cancer survivor, and remember well the value of marijuana as medicine. (I have also been a medical marijuana researcher for over 50 years, and have written two books on the subject. I have had medical doctors confer with me to learn more about cannabis as medicine. ) When you are gagging and vomiting from chemotherapy, you can rarely swallow the copycat pharmaceutical capsule, Marinol. 40 mg. a day cost $2,000 a month. Why is cannabis illegal? Follow the money. Marijuana is competition to alcohol, tobacco, and primarily pharmaceutical companies, hence, the USA has convinced other countries that this plant should be a Schedule I drug, along with drugs such as heroin.

In May 2002 medical journalist Carl Wagner gave this answer in the Hull Daily Mail (United Kingdom): "The truth is that herbal cannabis in natural forms would yield little profit for pharmaceutical corporations, while eliminating in the long term profit-driven patent drugs. Why allow people to use a safe plant for pennies when you can sell them a pill for a pound?"

In 1995, relying on 30 years of scientific research, editors of the internationally respected medical journal Lancet concluded, "The smoking of marijuana, even long term, is not harmful to health."

I formally worked in front of the camera's for the CBS television affiliate in Hawaii where I lived for 30 years. I have spent over 50 years researching cannabis, States Rights, and the U.S. government's lies regarding this plant.

I have interviewed hundreds of medical cannabis users. Bing Crosby was able to quit alcohol by switching to cannabis.
Country singer/actor, Willie Nelson also had a severe alcohol problem, until he began using cannabis. The Beatles used marijuana because they didn't want to become addicted to alcohol. Elvis Presley's best friend, Joe Esposito, said that had Elvis just stuck to pot he would no doubt be alive today.

The 1937 Marijuana Tax Act, prohibited the non-medical use of cannabis. The U.S. government has always known that marijuana has medical value. When I was a kid in the 1940's, we were told that marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind. It turns people into criminals, and many marijuana users become helplessly insane. Today, they are telling us that marijuana is more addictive than heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, Ecstasy, and all other illegal drugs combined!

In 1972 the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) sued the DEA to remove cannabis from its Schedule I list, so that it could be medically prescribed. The DEA said it would keep an open mind, so long as its own judge would rule on it. It went in and out of the courts. In 1982, their judge, Francis Young, related the story of a 3-year old;d boy with cancer. "The child vomited for days after chemotherapy. Standard medications failed. With the doctor's approval, the mother made tea and cookies from marijuana for her child. He did not vomit. His strength returned. He regained lost weight. His spirits revived." Later Judge Young stated: 'Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man." With corrupt politics the DEA rejected their own judge's findings.

The DEA still, under the Investigative New Drug program (IND) policy, the federal government still provides 300 rolled marijuana cigarettes to the six patients remaining in that study. In 1992 when hundreds of dying AIDS patients requested medical cannabis to stop their vomiting and wasting syndrome, the study was halted!

Please do not return Renee Boje to the USA.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Hello Cannabis Crusaders,

Thank you again for all of your support! I am so moved every time I tune in to this thread about my case. Sometimes I am even brought to tears because it means so much to me that people really care and are willing to express their opinions on my behalf. Thank you!

I have discovered that Canada has only refused extradition on individuals facing the death penalty in the country seeking to extradite them. I would like to gather as much evidence as possible to show that my life would be in danger if I were sent back to a US Federal Prison. I am now researching prisoner deaths in the US as well as deadly diseases running rampant in US prisons today. Any leads you may have would be greatly appreciated. You can email me directly at rboje@hotmail.com if you know of anything that may help.

I have just been made aware of the fact that hepatitis c has broken out in many of the prisons in America and that prisoners who catch it are not even being treated. It is horrific! I am deeply saddened by the many cruelties that I disover now on a daily basis being inflicted upon American prisoners.

My website has recently been updated and there is information on how people can help me currently on the main page and in the take action section: http://www.reneeboje.com

Thanks again for your continued faith and assistance with my plight.

Love & freedom,
Renee Boje

Renee visit Southern Center for Human Rights and search for Timothy Oliff. Also contact Lisa Kung who leads that organization. I am sure she will be able to provide you with more horror stories than you can stand.

Also visit Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International

In the last three months three women have died at Tutwiler Prison here in Alabama due to lack of even basic healthcare.

The "Tragedy" thread on Jonathan Magbie has many articles about prisoners dying. Especially the last few pages of the thread.
