are people also forgetting the incident with the Iranian guy in the library or whatnot not wanting to show his id ?
these campus police fuck nuts use much to much force. tazer .. ?
I did not forget that... in fact the incident popped into my head right away. I am on campus nearly 5 days a week and since V Tech, our University Police Department (California STATE Police Officers) received a grant and bought riot gear and M-16 riffles. The other day, they were out surveilling the quad and harrasing students merely walking by.
Also, a campus cop was handing flyers for an event one morning this past week. As everyone came by, he'd hand each student a flyer for "no cars on campus day" (an annual campus event where supposedly no one brings their car to campus to reduce polution and "honor" pedestrians, but I digress). Anyway, when one kid went right on by without taking a flyer, the cop yelled out, "hey, come back here and take one of these."
The student said something along the lines of his being late to class with no desire to take a flyer.
The cop was like, "you'd better get your ass back here and get one of these or I'm going to give you a ticket!"
Kid didn't stop, cop called for backup. I went to class and didn't see/hear what eventually happenned.
But I mean, come on... wtf would the kid get ticketed for? "Failure to stop for a flyer?" Or maybe not respecting the officer's
authorit-ah? P-I-G, PIG is what I have to say about all this.
Good plan by the man though. The increased show of force has certainly curtailed campus activism.
I do have a question for all who are on the cops side in this tazering incident though. What was the nature of the threat this "irate" student posed? I mean, the tazer is a use of force against a defined threat, right? Where was the threat?
I don't understand how violence was used to combat words.
I guess Neil Magnuson of The Freedom Tour deserved to get pepper sprayed too, huh? The officers DID ask him to let go of his friend. But then again, Neil DID protest that he had in fact done nothing wrong and did not wish to be arrested. What were those officers supposed to do??? Better Pepper spray than a gun, right?
Well I guess it is true that oppression can only be complete with the acceptance and participation of the opressed.
