DdC 32 Report post Posted November 20, 2013 World's first hemp car is creating some buzz! by Thom Hartmann It sounds like something out of a Cheech and Chong movie, but the world's most eco-friendly car is made entirely of hemp. The car, known as the Kestrel, was designed in Canada, where unlike the US, the government supports the industrial hemp industry. The vehicle is fully electric, it can go 100 miles between charges, and it has a top speed of about 55 miles an hour. The body of the vehicle is hemp-composite, which is lighter than glass, yet entirely impact resistant. The Kestrel is going into full production later this year, and it's expected to have an affordable price tag. Although the Kestrel isn't made from the type of grass that will get you high, this hemp-car is definitely creating some green technology buzz. Siegfried_Marcus Nicolas_Cugnot Electric_car#History Lotus Goes Green with Hemp Car Henry Ford's Hemp Car Kestrel is probably the first to put it on the market. But it is not the original hemp car. Or does it run on bio-diesel hemp oil as the Canadian Hemp Car did. Ford used Hemp fiber as part of the car body, along with soy and some other fibers. It ran on ethanol and before he could build his fleet of cars from the ground up alcohol prohibition replaced the farmers ethanol with Rockefeller's fossil fools gasoline. Just like Hemp tax prohibited production in the 30's and then Nixon added it as a schedule#1 narcotic in the 70's and a treaty was signed behind closed doors giving Canada exclusive rights to grow Hemp in North America and Chili in South America. Except for those patriots going outside of the bogus law, Most fiber still comes from Europe and China. Canada is producing more but still under government restrictions. The US believes Monsanto is the new family farmer here. So we have hemp cars that can run on ethanol alcohol except its illegal to distill your own. We have veggie oil from hemp to the original diesel that ran on Peanut Oil. Electric is another red herring, fossil fools gimmick in most cases. Running the generators mostly on coal, with transmission losses from the power plant to the home there is actually more pollution overall. Better for traffic jams and smog levels in the city but not the planet. If the electricity could be produced with solar, wind or waves or bio-diesel or bio-mass, then it would be better. I've heard of a new ceramic engine that could replace iron and steel and even less coal burning for that industry. One novel idea is to drive less. Good to see alternatives although Kestrel has been pushing this at least a decade. Lotus and Mercedes have been using Hemp plastic in parts and upholstery. Thanks Thom. Keep it in the light and expose the status quo in darkness for what it is. ~ DdC Al Capone and Watergate were red herrings to divert the countries attention from the Fascist acts of eliminating competition. Sir.Ganga 59 Report post Posted November 26, 2013 Well I had a hemp van back in the eighties and it created quite a buzz in my high school parking lot! Just think of the possibilities and product there would have been if it hadn't been banned in the 30's? Our world would be totally different by now...for the better...SG

stevetrentwilliamson 14 Report post Posted October 16, 2017 Fun Fact: Henry Ford was the first man to use hemp in cars, back in 1941. And even though hemp is still used in a lot of cars till date, the Kestrel is still unique in its own right, since it is made entirely out of hemp.

EiffelSmoker 19 Report post Posted November 16, 2017 A car you can smoke is awesome! Weight reduction + a resistant material, something tells me the future of racing cars will count on hemp! On cannabis as well I hope, even though I think the racers wouldn't find any reason to compete if they are also stoned hahaha Sorry it's the end of the day for me, I'm releasing the pressure!
