another method for generating Co2 is brewer's yeast.

try:
1 gallon milk jug
fill 2/3 full with Luke warm water (80-90 degrees)
i tablespoon yeast
one cup sugar

it might help with the Co2 without having a lit candle around.
there are lots of recipes to make it. even better than this one.

Get the basics down first as TomatoPie says. Over/underwatering are the #1 mistake growers make and co2 is only useful when the plant is healthy and well cared for. co2 will make things happen faster....so a small mistake is a BIG deal. If you have enough air flow through your intake/exhaust you will be fine. I would recommend a burner if you can manage the heat. Mine runs about 15sec at a time with the off period dependant on RH%. If not venting it is several minutes. Stays between 1100-1500 ppm and the base level before was 700 ppm. Used in flower only with exhaust ducted to veg. Nute uptake is much higher with co2. Adding co2 should be your last priority until you know what you're doing.....but after that it's a GREAT investment.

there are some great threads in the growing section that go into some wonderful detail on the different methods of Co2 generation. lots of first hand experience.

Hey Finshaggy, is that a shelf from a refrigerator you are using to scrog with? Seems a little tightly spaced. When scrogging a grower strives to have an even canopy, that one dominant top has to be a foot and a half taller than the rest of the plant. Here I have included a thread located in squilly's links. Scroggin with six... read and enjoy (:
