(1997) Cannabis Canada Issue 10 - JUSTICE DENIED - The judge agreed that marijuana was harmless and that prohibition was racist, but ruled that pot is still illegal.

Judge McCart's Findings of Fact

I heard from a most impressive number of experts, among whom there was a general consensus about effects of the consumption of marijuana. From an analysis of their evidence I am able to reach the following conclusions:

1. Consumption of marijuana is relatively harmless compared to the so-called hard drugs and including tobacco and alcohol;

2. There exists no hard evidence demonstrating any irreversible organic or mental damage from the consumption of marijuana;

3. That cannabis does cause alteration of mental functions and as such, it would not be prudent to drive a car while intoxicated;

4. There is no hard evidence that cannabis consumption induces psychoses;

5. Cannabis is not an addictive substance;

6. Marijuana is not criminogenic in that there is no evidence of a causal relationship between cannabis use and criminality;

7. That the consumption of marijuana probably does not lead to "hard drug" use for the vast majority of marijuana consumers, although there appears to be a statistical relationship between the use of marijuana and a variety of other psychoactive drugs;

8. Marijuana does not make people more aggressive or violent;

9. There have been no recorded deaths from the consumption of marijuana;

10. There is no evidence that marijuana causes amotivational syndrome;

11. Less than 1% of marijuana consumers are daily users;

12. Consumption in so-called "decriminalized states" does not increase out of proportion to states where there is no de-criminalization;

13. Health related costs of cannabis use are negligible when compared to the costs attributable to tobacco and alcohol consumption.

(2003) Pot-TV - Prime Minister of Canada Pledges Decriminilization - Part 1
(2003) Pot-TV - Prime Minister of Canada Pledges Decriminilization - Part 2

(2003, May 8th) CC Magazine - Canadian Prime Minister promises decrim

"Don't start to smoke yet," chastised Prime Minister Chretien, speaking at a fundraiser where he announced plans to decriminalize marijuana by June, 2003.

Who knows? Perhaps a few of the loudly applauding attendees rifled through their pockets for cigar-sized celebratory joints, but the Prime Minister's warning rang with a deeper irony, coming as it does on the eve of the Caine/Clay/Malmo-Levine Supreme Court case, the most potent constitutional challenge to Canada's marijuana laws ever.

Last December, 2002, three days before the Caine/Clay/Malmo-Levine case was poised to smash prohibition forever, Justice Minister Cauchon promised to introduce legislation decriminalizing cannabis possession in the early months of 2003. Cauchon's promise never materialized, but the court case that could have torn up Canada's pot laws was put on hold until early May 2003.

(1996) Conan - Pot Smokin' Granny

Source 4 Date

Actress Helen Martin, whose hilarious 1996 appearance on an episode of
Late Night has been a highlight of the show's anniversary specials,
has died at the age of 90.

Ms. Martin appeared on the show to promote her role in the movie
"Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the
Hood." When Conan asked her "How do you feel about playing a
pot-smoking granny?", she replied "I love reefer!" A few minutes later
Conan gingerly asked her how old she was, and her response was "What
the f***'s it to you?" Both responses sent Conan into hysterics.

(1996) Jean Leloup - Johnny Go

From the album Le Dôme. There some english in this song, definitely worth listening to. Among my favorites. At the beginning of this song the lyrics go:

"Et les pieces sont vides á présent et je suis libre de mon temps. Faire un café fumer un joint me semble intelligent. La chose á faire en ce cas-lá n'est pas prescrite par la loi, ni par les Tables de la Foi"

Which roughly translates to:

"The rooms have no occupants and I have free time. Making a coffee and smoking a joint seems smart. The thing to do in this case is not prescribed by law nor by the rules of religious faith."

Of course the rhythm and rhyme that makes the song beautiful is lost in translation.
