Hey everyone, I have been reading around the site for a few months now, finally have made an account. ^_^
So I have decided to break down and start my own room. I am rather excited. I have all my lights, vent fan, currently building the room. Now here is my problem.
I have a Vortext powerfan. I want to have it set up where I can have a thermostat in my room that when the temparature becomes to hot the vent fan will kick in keeping it at the proper temp. Now how would I go about wiring all of this and what other additional equipment would I need? I'm looking for the cheapest way possible as i have already sunk 1500$ into my room and am running on a bit of a tight budget now.

Any if all help would be much appreciated.

I would use a cheap wall thermostat placed at the height you want to monitor. An old used one is fine, but basically, you wire that like any switch, to your fan control. Youll want it on the Cool side, so it works like an air conditioner, when it gets too hot, the fan kicks on, when the temps are golden, it kicks back off.

That's exactly what I use - an old thermostat - problem is that when the temp. gets to where the thermostat is set the thermostat switch goes open. Unless you have some simple electronics to reverse the action of the switch you have a problem. The most simple way is to have someone make you a single transistor switch that will turn a relay on when required.

That's exactly what I use - an old thermostat - problem is that when the temp. gets to where the thermostat is set the thermostat switch goes open. Unless you have some simple electronics to reverse the action of the switch you have a problem as the fan would stop running at this point, also most good volume air moving fans are 110V and the thermostat is only rated to switch low, 12-36V loads. The most simple way is to have someone make you a single transistor switch that will turn a relay on when required.
A 12V wall plug/power supply and a 12V DC DPDT relay will do the job. You can use just the relay but I find that the transistor tends to reduce the relay bounce as the thermostat tends to bounce between open & closed at the selected temp - this is hard on both the relay & the fan.

Good info. Here is the one I bought:
http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item3357e627d9

I havent hooked it up yet, but it came highly recommended by a buddy. I researched all my options, and landed on the Ranco because of features and quality.
